No, Thank YOU!
Something I was not prepared for when starting this journey is the realization that, in a lot of ways, the diet and exercise is the easy part. Changing your fitness schedule and your eating habits is a lot more straightforward than changing your attitude toward yourself and your self-image.
The mental is by far the bigger battle. Despite coming up on 80 (EIGHTY!!!) pounds lost and having...
From My Notes
Wherefore art thou, cheese?
I love cheese. Cheese is the one thing I don’t want to give up. Is that precisely why I should? Will that be somehow symbolic of all those things I thought would never change, but it was really just me that needed to.
This program has a rad auto correct.
**(that last was unrelated)
Where was I?
Scrolling up… I need to change my thinking. Maybe I...

Breaking the Mirror Curse
When I was about 8 years old, I broke 3 mirrors in three different stores in a very short amount of time. In my memory they fell over without my touching them. Of course, I have never been what you would call graceful. I have always been unintentionally destructive and I dearly loved nothing more than to watch myself in the mirror (usually performing some song, dance or character).
At...

What Goes Up...
The past few weeks have been great! I went on vacation to the Florida Keys with my Mom and Aunt and spent a week reading, lounging by our own pool or looking out at the Atlantic 100 feet from our deck.
Then I came back to work calm and refreshed, had an awesome yearly review, averaged about 1200 calories a day and went to yoga 4 days in a row.
At my weigh in this past Saturday, I gained...

Frienemies
Here’s a secret: When I talk about how much weight I’ve lost, I am just guessing. I didn’t even own a scale until about two months ago.
This is because fat people both fear and hate scales. They are a concrete reminder of what a failure we are (and society gives us enough clues as to how unappealing and second class we fatties are without bringing that mocking judgement...
Book Report :: American Psycho
I’m a fan of Bret Easton Ellis. I like the subversiveness, the excess, the seedy underbelly of the upper class. I dig it. But, when I started reading American Psycho, I was…bored. Seriously, bored out of my mind with the incessant descriptions of what everyone was wearing and the chapters wholly devoted to the analysis of various rock albums of the 80’s.
I couldn’t...
Under Construction
In a lot of ways, losing weight is exactly how I imagined it would be. The euphoria of buying progressively smaller clothes, of having your old clothes, that you were once so uncomfortable in (because you were uncomfortable in you) be too big to wear anymore, of having all those boys who wouldn’t give you the time of day before be interested in what you have to say (like they’ve never...

Happy Hour at Orlando Power Yoga
This past Friday, I took my first yoga class…in a hot room…a completely full hot room filled with people who clearly had been there before…mainly fit people who had been there before…and were dressed appropriately. To say I was intimidated is a understatement.
If it weren’t for the fact, I came with my friend Rhia, I would have run away immediately. But I stayed...
Pain in the A$$
Warning: TMI in progress!
All of a sudden, my butt has started to fall asleep while I’m sitting. Is this because I have less padding nowadays?

It's the Little Things...
Today was a stressful day. A tense day with a ‘Come to Jesus’ ultimatum and some surprising (and surprisingly painful) news. Driving home, though, I witnessed something unexpected that made me realize that sometimes you really have to appreciate the little things in life.
Living in a tourist destination, I am a stone’s throw from several theme parks and multiple hotels and...

Coming Up Next...
Here’s something I don’t understand. WHY do TV shows always tell you what’s coming up next before going to a commercial break. You’re just going to see it in a few minutes. AND when you come back from a commercial, they show you what you missed even though you already saw it a few minutes ago.
Exactly how slow do they think people are? And more disturbingly, is the...

We are GO for launch!
Last week I got to experience something few people do. I got to view the launch of the Space Shuttle Endeavor from the Kennedy Space Center. I am lucky enough to have a friend who works at Kennedy as the office manager for one of the engineering firms and she was lucky enough to get a car pass to view the launch.
This was the culmination of a month-long wait with fuel tank issues and weather...

Things I Never Thought I'd Have to Say
My job offers me a lot of amusement at the expense of others. Sometimes I consider it a chore and other times I think of it more as a perk. Most days are split between my hysterical laughter and my wanting to smash my head through the computer screen.
Today I found myself typing the following:
Also, the idiomatic expression “not afraid to get your hands dirty” generally connotes...

My Worst Nightmare
Today I’m driving home from work and I get behind this car that is clearly VERY proud of their right-wing heritage. And it made me really angry. Not that I have anything against conservatives or Republicans or Christians or Pro-Lifers in general. I say live and let live. You can believe what you want. Who am I to judge?
However, what I do have a problem with…a BIG problem with is...

Where Has the Time Gone?
It’s been a good long while since I’ve posted here. I got sucked into the vast black hole that we call Twitter.
I am going to start making a conscious effort to keep up with this blog, though, so stay tuned.

Scarlett Johansson is a Clone!
I got this to my inbox today and was so disturbed by it, I wanted to be sure to share it with you all. Apparently, those pesky Germans are cloning regular people and RUINING their Christian reputations by sending the clones out to earn a living in Hollywood.
Thank God Serg is here to tell us what’s really going on! (The More You Know.)
Hello dear Ladies and Gentlemen! I would like...

Crazy Punching Weasel Running Loose
So, I open the mail today and in it is a card from my Mother (typical Mom stuff, picture of a cat reading a book). She has enclosed a few clippings from the police “Roundup” of The Chronicle Telegram to let me know how lucky I am NOT to live in Ohio anymore.
This one is my favorite:

Bok Tower, Lake Wales Florida
Ok, so I tend to get a bit carried away with things. A bit too excited, a bit too annoyed, a bit too dramatic all around. So, I don’t want that to color what I have to tell you and that is that I’m pretty certan that the Bok Tower Gardens in Lake Wales, Florida is one of the most peacefully beautiful places I have even been. So, for all intents and purposes, it would not be...

I Can Speeking Engish Good?
Let me preface this by saying that this is not a value judgment on non-English speakers writing blogs. Many non-native English speakers blog in English and many are very popular. Many have great looking blogs and a good readership. They definitely have their place and I am the last person who would want to censor them. That being said, however, I feel a rant coming on. And it goes a little...

Brought to You by the Letter 'A'
The word of the day, boys and girls, is apathy.
I just can’t bring myself to care much about anything. Specifically, what I am going to be doing on New Year’s Eve. I don’t want to go downtown or to any large tourist area as I expect the crowds will be rather large and I may stab someone in the throat with a fork.
My best friend is pregnant, so no drinks by her pool.
My house...

Depth of Vision
It occurred to me this evening how truly small the Internet makes this vast universe. I’ve been reading it over and over, but it just finally sunk in that the massive appeal of Social Media is that it allows us to connect with others be they friends, family, co-workers, strangers of like minds or arch nemeses.
I think that it was the connection part that just wasn’t, well,...

A Laugh for Friday
BrightGirl Says: I found this in my inbox today and thought it was pretty funny. Enjoy!
We were dressed and ready to go out for the New Years Eve Party. We turned on a night light, turned the answering machine on, covered our pet Parakeet and put the cat in the backyard.
We phoned the local cab company and requested a taxi. The taxi arrived and we opened the front door to leave the house....

What in the Wordle
When people ask me what I do for a living, I tell them I work for a Social Media Marketing company that does blog advertising. That’s the short answer. The inevitable follow up question is, “What does that mean?”. At which point I have to ask them to sit down and find out how much time they have.
What we do is new and we’re really the first ones to do it, so you always...

Social Media Ate My Homework!
I am quickly becoming a Social Media junkie. I am on Twitter and LinkedIn and I am obsessed with my Flickr account. When I decided to use this blog as a grand experiment in networking, I joined BlogCatalog and Digg
I use Geni to scan and upload family photos and to receive updates on the lives of distant cousins that I’ve never heard of let alone met (FYI, I apparently have a cousin named...

ICE! is Nice.
For the second year in a row, I attended ICE! at the Gaylord Palms in Orlando. It is completely amazing. The whole experience is magical from the lighted tree path to the introduction of the show by Santa himself.
After Santa’s welcome and bundling up in ankle length parkas (perfect for the ice slides), you are sent in to a winter wonderland where everything is made from ice from bridges...
